Description
The name Luthen Rael was fictitious: it was borne by a man named Lir, who had served as a sergeant in the Imperial infantry and had been forced to take part in punitive operations. Around 18 BBY he deserted, carrying out of a ravaged region an orphan girl, whom he named Kleya Marki. A decade later he ran an antiques shop on Coruscant, Galactic Antiquities and Items of Interest, which served as a front for an intelligence network; together with Marki he maintained contact with Senator Mon Mothma and with Saw Gerrera.
By 5 BBY the network numbered many agents. Rael entrusted Vel Sartha with leading the group that robbed the Imperial garrison on Aldhani, where the payroll of an entire sector was kept, and shortly before the operation he personally took Cassian Andor off Ferrix, sending him to the same group.
The Imperial Security Bureau gave the unknown organizer the code name “Axis”, and Supervisor Dedra Meero began hunting him. Learning from his man inside the Bureau, Lonni Jung, that Anto Kreegyr's unit was walking into a trap, Rael chose not to warn him, so as not to expose his informant.
